TVC Responsibilities:
I assist the Connections Ministry by providing support in the recruitment, onboarding, and development of Connections volunteers.
When and how did the Lord save you?
I was raised in church all my life by godly parents whom I am so thankful for. I was saved at a young age of 6 in Calvary Baptist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. I truly remember feeling the tug of the Holy Spirit on my heart. As I grew older, I drifted from keeping my relationship with Christ front and center. As life got busier and college was pulling me in different directions, I kept trying to change myself to get back to the person whom I thought God expected me to be. I was trying to “work” my way back, which just led to more guilt and shame. What I was completely missing was that God loved me just as I am, broken and sinful. Even though I had been a Christian for years, it was not until I was an adult that I began to understand and experience the true meaning of the gospel. There was nothing I could do to make myself better. Christ died for my past, present, and future sins. Understanding this has brought about a peace like no other, not because of anything I have done, but what Christ did on the cross.
When did you come to TVC and what brought you here?
We moved to Highland Village in 2004 from the Irving area. At the time we had been at another church for about eight years. Everywhere I would go in and around Highland Village/FM, I would have someone say, “You need to try out The Village Church.” So after many interactions like that, we visited in 2005 and loved it.
If you had to give a TED Talk, what subject would you choose to speak on, and why?
I love a good underdog story, like Rocky, and in certain aspects of my life, I lived that. My talk would be about never giving up or quitting. This was positively ingrained in me by my dad growing up. However, as I have aged, I would certainly balance the “never quit" part with how Christ sustains us when we do fall, fail, etc. I have done plenty of that as well.
