Student MentoringStudent mentoring creates one-to-one relationships between caring Christian adults and at-risk children in local schools. Most of the students we mentor come from difficult backgrounds that include poverty, single-parent homes, parents in prison, and a history of abuse and neglect. We are looking for you to make a difference in a child's life by mentoring just one hour a week. Of the students who received a mentor last year, 99.3 percent of them advanced onto the next grade or graduated. The Village Church partners with Communities in Schools in Denton and Lewisville, The Nelson Center in Denton, and with Champions of Hope in Dallas to provide information, training and support. Ongoing mentorship provides teens with an alternative to drugs, crime, pregnancy and other pressures offered by the surrounding community. Our hope is to encourage and walk with each teen as they grow in the knowledge of themselves and Christ. The program requires each mentor to meet with a teen twice a month and contacting them throughout the week. Immediate needs include:
