What is the Mission of Transform?Transform exists to move church members outside of the church walls by engaging the community in a purposeful and powerful way. Transform is not a "Project Focused" mission, but a "Relationship Focused" mission, and it is designed to achieve three goals: Goal 1: Build RelationshipsTransform is a springboard to building relationships in the community. The purpose of Transform is not to do a project, but to start and build relationships out of the large event. Goal 2: Focus on EducationTransform is an event that uses improving school facilities as a catalyst to building relationships with school administrators, teachers, and students. The event should move event participants into mentoring relationships with the students throughout the year. Goal 3: Serve with CommunityTransform is not for The Village Church. Rather, Transform is the body of Christ moving in a dramatic way in our community. The body has many parts both in our church, other churches and in the community as a whole. Therefore, Transform is designed as a unifying event that empowers the whole community. All Transform projects need to have a mixture of community members and church members. Also, there needs to be a mixture of family friendly projects so all ages can participate. Why are we focusing on Schools? We are focusing on schools because we want to work toward transforming our communities from the inside out. To transform a community, you must first build up and empower leaders within the community. Public schools are the only place in our society where nearly all socio-economic, ethnic, and religious groups come together. Also, our public schools work as the "canary in the mine shaft" because problems in our communities can first be recognized through our children. With this being the case, we want to focus our efforts on the children in our communities to empower them to be leaders in their own neighborhoods. We intend to do this by creating mentoring relationships with the students and their families. Transforming school facilities together is a place where these relationships can start. What time should we arrive?Arrive between 8 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Check-In will be between 8:15 and 8:45. What if we registered for partial days?Morning partial day shift 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (arrive before 8:45 for check in) What time will it be over?3 p.m. Will food and water be provided?Yes, a free Chik-Fil-A lunch and water will be provided. If you have special dietary restrictions, please bring your own food. What Should I bring?Materials and supplies will be provided. Just bring yourself. What should we bring?
Parent FAQsWhat will I do with my children when we come to Transform? The whole concept of the "family" projects for Transform is for you to be able to serve together as a family. Our volunteer coordinators will be placing your family as a "unit" together on an appropriate project at each site. We are asking all parents to keep your children in your care, unless a Transform leadership team member directs you differently. For the safety of your children, and the many children who will be coming from our church and the community, we appreciate your help in maintaining close supervision of your children. What kind of projects will there be for my children and me to help with? The Local Missions team has been working hard alongside Little Village and Kid's Village staff members to provide family-friendly projects. Those projects will range from gardening and planting to cleaning and painting. The main purpose of Transform is to build relationships with those in the community alongside your family and friends. What do I need to bring? There will be supplies, tools, and some water and snacks provided. We encourage you to bring snacks from home, especially if you or your child has any specific dietary needs or preferences. Because some projects may be outside, you'll want to bring sunscreen and some extra water. A Chick-fil-A lunch will be provided at noon, so you can stay for that or eat first thing depending on which shift you are helping with. If you have an infant or toddler, it may be helpful to bring your stroller along as well, but only if necessary. What if I need to change a diaper or feed? Each location will have a Baby Care Room where moms can go to take care of any mommy and baby needs. Check with anyone in a green, red, yellow, or blue shirt on the day of the event for the room's location. Transform is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on each Saturday. I've got kids and can't stay that long, but we still want to serve! Are there any other options?Yes! When you register online, you can sign up for partial days or full days. The partial day can be either 9-12 in the morning or 12-3 in the afternoon. Once you have registered, someone will contact you to see which time slot you prefer. |
