Life Story

I grew up in Dallas, Texas in a home where my parents communicated and lived out biblical truth and community. I was converted to Christ at the age of 12 in my home as a fifth grader. I remember being confronted with the truth of the gospel and growing in awareness of my own depravity. One night I asked my dad to come and pray with me in my room where together we cried out for mercy and for Jesus Christ to become savior of my life.

It wasn't until my junior year in high school that I began to understand more the magnitude of God's grace and holiness and how little I truly loved and longed for Christ to be the greatest treasure and passion of my life. My Young Life leader, Scott Coy and godly coach, Jerry Barlow, invited me to a Young Life ski trip that would be the place and time where the Lord uncovered my futile life pursuits and melted me down to a humble new beginning of pursuing Him! The Lord used these two men to disciple me and to help me discover God's call on my life to spend the rest of my life "making disciples."

In following God's call on my life, I attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, graduating in 1985, and then graduated from Southwestern Seminary in 1990. While at HSU, I met and married my wife, Julie. We were married in December 1983. Together, we share a like passion to encourage and disciple followers of Christ. Our home has been blessed with 3 children: Hannah, a student at Texas A&M, Grace Ann, a sophomore in high school, and Hill living life in the 3rd grade!

In 1993 after serving in the local church for over 12 years, my family and I moved to Abilene, Texas to begin Grace Bible Study for college students. My desire was to see God place a hunger and passion in the hearts of a young generation for Him. While leading Grace, I served as the interim pastor at Beltway Park Church and Southside Church. The Lord brought my family and I back to Dallas in 1999 to join the staff of First Baptist Church in Dallas, and in January of 2008, we joined The Village Church.

Hope for The Village Church

My hope for The Village is to see God glorified and treasured in the hearts of His people and to hope and pray for the Lord to continue to grant His favor upon His church so that many sons and daughters in the Dallas area, and globally, will also find their joy and life in Jesus Christ.
